The word “SWIMS” will remain “SWIMS” even after you turn it upside down.
Those type of words are called ambigrams.
Ambigrams can be words, art forms, or other symbolic representations whose elements retain meaning even when viewed or interpreted from different directions, perspectives, or orientations.
Can you think of other word ambigrams?
At https://flipscript.com you can make an ambigram out of anything. It’s pretty cool. Some of the designs are breathtaking.
That is cool! Thank you, Diedra. 🙂
The word ambigram has a fun sound, but I can’t think of any examples. I’ve never come across the word before, despite seeing designs and tattoos which exhibit the meaning you give above. I’ll just have to go and look some up now! 😀
My brain turns off when I’m asked if I can do something like this. Cool though.
I did not know that! What a grand education I get reading your posts.
Thank you, Nancy. 🙂
I did not know that! What a grand education I get reading your posts. Thanks for the ambigram and the word ambigram. Cheers.
Welcome!
Dan Brown’s Angels & Demons (the precursor to The Da Vinci Code) plays heavily with ambigrams, for anyone interested in seeing how much fun they can be!
Interesting. Thank you for that, Sean.
Thanks for sharing and wishing all is well in your world. Enjoy the day.
Thank you! You, too, MG.
My mind isn’t working that way today, Jack. Interesting though. 🙂 — Suzanne
